Just forty-four miles northeast of Indianapolis sits a 41-square mile charming little city called Anderson, Indiana. A settlement, once known as "Anderson Town," it was named after an Indian Chief William Anderson. Chief Anderson's mother was Lenape Indian, and his father was from Sweden. It wasn't until 1838 that Anderson, Indiana received the official title as a "town." Shortly after that, its status as a town was lost due to economic hardships. In 1849, the community was once again crowned as a "town." That status was lost once again 1852 but 1853 yielded a fruitful, final incorporation of Anderson's "town" status, which has been active ever since.
